Hi everyone,
I am currently in the process of adopting a baby that isn't born yet. The birth mom and I have an open relationship and talk everyday.
She was in a relationship with the birth father and they broke up and now live in seperate residences. He has not supported her in any way (or himself while he was living there), she says he got into drugs and has a bad temper. He never hit her, but threw a lot of things. She has told him since she was 1 mo pg (she is now 5) that she is planning on putting the baby up for adoption. He isn't in agreement. She is very scared for him to have the baby. She doesn't want baby to grow up in drugs, poverty and violence.
I have talked with my attny and they promise to not let b-moms addy be known for her protection etc and they will be mailing him a letter soon with a paper he can sign.. or not.
Attny says if he doesn't sign and protests, we could consider going to court to terminate his rights.
This sounds scary. Baby is due in just a few months. The b-mom is scared he can take baby from her and she won't be able to adopt baby to us.
Has anyone had a similar situation? I live in CA, usa. Has anyone had to go to court to terminate birth father rights before?
