Hello.
My name is Jennifer and I am just beginning research into adoption. My son was born in December with a genetic condition that is autosomal dominant. We are working on getting the gene identified but have been going through the hurry-up-and-wait phase for the last 5 months. Since IVF with PGD is not looking promising, we have decided to start this path at the same time.
Since I already have a child with special needs, I really need a healthy baby the next time around. I spoke to my OB and Pediatrician - they tell me that the wait here is 3-4 years for a healthy infant via private adoption. I'm assuming this is a white child.
My husband is Chinese by ethnicity and hails from the Philippines - he was born here, though. We are 28.
I have spoken to a few people with Chinese children - they tell me that they have seen people adopt that are younger than 30. But all of the agencies I have found say that 30 is the minimum.
So here are my questions:
1. What books would you recommend?
2. Is it possible to find statistics for adopting native-born Asian, Asian-white mixed, or other combinations? All I have seen are white, black, or white/black information.
3. does anyone know anything about Philippine adoption? Are all the kids ethnically Filipino, or do you see Chinese or white mixed kids as well?
4. Can you adopt from China if you aren't 30 yet?
5 What agencies would you recommend for either native or international adoption?
I'm sure I will have many more questions, but this will certainly help me get started!
Jennifer
