I have a question. First some background. We are trying to adopt my sons best friend. He has been the system at least 2 years with one failed adoption (family on his mother's side), we just found out a week ago that he is up for adoption again and we have applied and had a home study. Meanwhile up pops a realitive on the father's side after all this time (after 2 or more years) and wants to adopt.
My question is what does Michigan require for family members to adopt? Do they have a background check? Do they have to have physicals?
This family has only been in the picture for a week and they just moved him into their home on Friday.
Thank you for any and all input.

Kinship or Relative Adoption is different from regular Adoption!
It sounds like the Relative has already submitted a Homestudy. 99.44 % of the time the Court will choose Family over an outside party. This has probably been in the process for longer, but due to Confidentiality. No one has been able to tell you!
You don't state an age, but he may have said that he wants to live with them?
