My Mother's birth name was Mildred Kent. Her father was listed as John Joseph Kent from Conn. or NY. Her mother was from either Mass. or NY. Her parents listed divorce as the reason for adoption. She was placed in the orphanage at about 6 months, but the adoption was not finalized until 1937.
Looking for family members for over 40 years.
Please help.

John J Kent was born in 1897 in Connecticut. His wife's name was Edith S. She was born in Massachusetts in 1898. Her father was born in Poland and her mother in Russia. His parents were both born in Connecticut. He was a waiter in a restaurant in 1930.
In 1930, they were boarders at a home owned by Walter & Naomi Haynes. The Haynes had a daughter born in 1914 named Alice V. Haynes. They did not appear to be related to the Kents.
It also does not appear that they divorced. I found a family tree for them. It shows that they had two children one of which married a Saviano and had four children last name Saviano. The contact person on the tree is: trudygc@msn.com
Good luck and feel free to contact me if you need any further help.

Yes Beth, that is my post. I have been unable to trace either of the birth parents before or after their location in Rockford in 1930. I don't have birth dates or any relations on either John or Edith.
Thank you for your efforts, I was quite excited to get the notice of a post in my e-mail.
To muddy this up even more I have conflicting birth cerificate information that the birth mother, Edith Sylvia Gordon, was 21 y/o not 31 y/o as on the census and born in New York not Massachusetts. The same birth info lists the birth father, John Kent, as born in New York instead of Connecticut.

That certainly muddies things a bit. Although I found info on the 1930 census, I couldn't find her on the 1920 and that could be why. Checked both ages and near those, but nothing that matched her parents' background. In Indiana, I was able to find a record of divorce filings. Those showed dates of birth. With an exact dob, we may be able to find more. Perhaps you could make a phone call to the county and ask for a divorce filing in late 1930 or early 1931 and see what they have.
That is a good idea and I will see what I can find out. In the early 80's I was in contact with a librarian in Rockford who I paid to pull copies of the city directory with the same info. I actually went to Rockford in the mid 80's and to the address and spoke with people around there and the restaurant where he worked which was quite near the home and by a factory at that time (1930's). It was a small diner type with a counter and a few booths. I also found Alice at a nursing home and tried to talk to her, unfortunately she was cranky and said she was too busy to talk to me. I also spoke with a Priest at the Catholic Charities in Rockford, he would not meet with me, but gave me the same 21y/o and 32y/o for the parents and that ** Edith was born in New York and BF John was born in New York. I also was able to locate the Nun who was there when she (my Mother) came in and remembered the BF John coming to visit several times and sitting with her and crying. She indicated liking him and feeling sad for him. She also said the mother had visited at least once that she could remember and that was with another man. (She didn't remember who.) It is my recollection from those conversations that the parents never actually signed to release her for adoption, that the courts eventually did it. Since she was not placed until 1933 that sounds correct. The BF John is also listed as a mechanic on the birth info.
You have my e-mail address in the earlier post if you want to contact me direct.
