Hi everyone!
I am new here and I need some help. I lived in the Philippines and I am here in California right now as a tourist. My uncle (brother of my father) wanted to adopt me legally. I am currently 14 years old, we've done so many researches but I think it's not enough and I think this forum will help a lot. The question is, can my uncle adopt me legally? Will I have to go back to the Philippines? What are the requirements needed?
I hope you can help me.
added info: My uncle is a U.S. citizen and He's currently single, he is 42 years old.
Thank you!
Hi,
You'll want to contact a number of places. The DSWD in Manila, and the ICAB in Manila. They will tell you exactly what you need to do. You can also contact the BCIS office in your area, but good luck to get a response back very quickly. If you email a representative at ICAB, they usually respond in about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. The web address for ICAB is www.skyinet.net. Good luck! It is possible, but you might have to be patient, and do a lot of digging around. I have found that the more questions you ask, and the more people you talk to, the more you'll find out, and the faster things will go.

If you are in Southern California look up Visa Del Mar they can guide you through the process and they are the most economical .
There is another agency I ran into while getting my legal capacity to adopt that I can't quite remember the name off the top of my head that does exactly this process. They are a social services office, you can call the adoption office for state and they can direct you to the proper unit.

blackrose,
We just returned from the Philippines, and meeting with Dr. Lourna Laraya at ICAB. We discussed issues like yours with her, and she said the best thing you can do is to write in to ICAB (or have your uncle write), and give them detailed information on what's happening. She'll tell you how to do the adoption, and YES! it is possible, and it is much easier and faster than what the rest of us go through because you are related (you do have to have good proof of relation though). This also holds true for anyone who has brought a child over for medical reasons. Even though you've already seen and know the child, you can adopt them - through a medical known adoption!
