My husband and I finally received our referral in March. We thought our wait was finally almost over!! We were told it was only a matter of weeks till we could go get him. However, now I find out from the BCIS that it will be a couple of months to process our I-600, and then it will be another month or so before everything else happens that needs to happen before we go get him. I am just devastated. Every day he is getting older!!
I am also concerned because I keep reading about the I-171 as part of the process. My adoption coordinator (who is new to this and has been wrong about things in the past) says that we don't need one. We received an I-171H a long time ago. Is this the same thing? What is an I-171? Please help. Along with having to wait, I am stressing out about this.
Thanks.

Oh my,
You do need the I-171, because it is your approval letter from submitting your I-600. You can't even get approval to get your child until the Philippine Govmnt. has it. Although, you don't have to do anything to get it to them. by the time you get your I-171 in the mail, the BCIS has already sent it on, but it won't get to the ICAB for about 3 to 4 weeks. Then you still have to wait a few weeks for them to do your childs visa medical, and US embassy interview, and then they give the approvals to the DSWD for travel approval, and then on to ICAB who will send your adoption agency an email with a "proposed itinerary" and an invitation letter for you to come. So, you'll go about 2 months after you get your I-171 in the mail. Hope this helps! We just got back from picking up our daughter!!!!!!!!! It was wonderful! And, don't stress out, you will get there! Oh, and your I-171H was the approval letter for the I-600A, and the I-171 is the approval letter for the I-600 (to classify an orphan as your relative!).
