I am sorry to keep asking but why are things taking so long? Can anyone tell me how long they waited from approval to match? We were told that at the most it would be 12 months. We asked for a toddler of either gender. Can anyone tell me how long it has taken them and what kind of child they asked for?
Hello Sampaguita -
I am happy to post that we are making progress on our adoption journey. As a recap our dossier was sent/approved by ICAB in Feb 2003 and we originally requested a healthy female under 24 (changed it to 36 mo in spring 2005 due to my son getting older). We finally received a match of a beautiful 5 mo old baby girl on Oct 27, 2005. We hope to travel in early March.
I hope there are more "good news" stories from other members.

Oh my God you waited 32 months for a referral? You must have been at your wits end by the time you got it.
Thanks for sharing your story, Jennifer. I'm not too surprised anymore by the long wait for the referral...but it is good to know that this little girl will soon have a loving home. Congrats!
Congratulations to you and your family, how exciting. thanks and praises for your patience. Good luck
I'm sorry we were approved Feb 2004 (we started our homestudy Sep 2003 - got my years mixed up). So our wait was about 21 months. Yes I had my share of "meltdowns" during the waiting period. But it is amazing that the timing was perfect - our little girl is beautiful and her birthname happens to be Jennifer.
For those still waiting, it WILL happen - and when it does the wait time will make sense - you'll realize certain things needed to happen for that child to be matched with you. God is good.

Jennifer- would you mind sharing what island your daughter from? was she in a private run home or in government care? My children are from Cebu and Davao. Congratulations again and God bless.

Hello Pam - My daughter was born in Quezon City and she is currently in foster care through the Kaisahang Buhay Foundation. Jennifer
Can you adopt siblings from the Philippines? We are looking in to adopting siblings (either girl girl or boy girl) that are older, between 5 and 11). We haven't started our paperwork yet, but feel this is where we're being led.
I wonder if it would take us longer since we want 2? Or is this country even allowing the adoption of siblings?

Try posting at the yahoo group you will get a much better response especially with you wanting siblings...

Dear FaithsHope
yes you can adopt siblings from the philippines. it should not take any longer than adopting one child, and could possibly be faster as some christian run care homes have older sibling groups that are considered hard to place and they will work with you in adopting these children. some groups can be pre-identified for placement as well. from your user name and wording in your post, can I assume you are Christians? if so I would be happy to share info on the home we adopted from through a private message.
2PinoKids, yes we are Christians. Sorry it has taken so long to reply....we've of course been paper chasing :)
We've sent in our application to our agency, and contacted our Homestudy agency to begin our first visit next week :)
We're really hoping to be matched with 2 siblings, 4-9 years of age....and we're hoping for plenty of things to keep us busy during our wait :)
Thanks for the offer to share your story, it's welcomed!

We started our LONG process of adoption from the PI in Aug 03. We put down that we would adopt boy up to 3 and siblings (boy, boy or boy, girl). In the PI I think you just have to take what you can get. In Oct 05 we changed our age level to 5 and under, we were told by ICAB that would be a better age to put.
We received our referral in Mar 06, but my spouse is in the military and we were now in the process of moving. We accepted the referral, but since moving we had to do another Homestudy and a LOT of the paperwork all over again. Hopefully we are now on the final stages, we are now only waiting on CIS to approve our I-600.
We were wondering if any of you had traveled to the PI to pick up your child. Did someone from ICAB greet you at the airport, or how does that all work?
There's only 4 words to describe Adoption in the Philippines "just not worth it".

Hello,
Good for you that you didn't give up, we have adopted tree times from P.I. and we certainally think it was well worth it. Choosing international adoption is time consuming no matter where you adopt from. There can always be delays, but in the end you are giving a child a family. who can put a price or time limit on that? We had made arrangments with the Home our kids were in to meet us at the airport.( on a different island from ICAB) Normally you have to retrieve the child, then travel to manila to go to ICAB. Once everything is finalized for you , you should be able to contact your childs caregivers/home to arrange for someone to meet you, and they can usually help with arranging a place to stay while you are there. good luck.
Pam
Can I ask what home they were at. Our future son is at Kings Garden Children's Home. The address says Orion, Battan.
We know in the end it will all be worth the wait :-)
