I am a single female adopting from the Philippines. I Was approved for adoption by the Philippines on July 1, 2004. The couples in my agency are experiencing about a 13 month wait from the time of approval in the Philippines. I have asked for a girl 4-5 years of age. Does it take longer or a shorter time to adopt an older girl?
Since you are asking for an older child, your wait should be much shorter (doesn't really matter whether boy/girl). They usually jump on anyone who comes in with a request like that! Good luck!

Its all depends. The InterCountry Adoption Board in the Philippines ICAB is really slow in processing the application for busy clearing the huge backlog two years ago. It all depands how they work. From our experience, they are most unorganize and confuse to our agency and to us. For a older child it may be faster but for todler, maybe that todler starts collect old age pension that your match is found ! Patient is the key to success.
I was quite surprise that the philippines allows single to adopt children abroad. When my wife and I come to complete their form, on their guideline, they restricts same sex couples, common law relationships, single parents from adopting. Also in their requirement the couple must be legally married for at least 3 years and over 28 years of age when applying. The Philipines gives priority to couples who are both Roman Catholics and seriously practising their faith. Priority is also given first to Filipinos and then other nationals.
The waiting time may be shorter with older child of 5 or older. The Philippines is very short of todlers from 0 to 2 yrs because of high demand and also because very recently they have heavily tighten the system which makes international adoption takes longer then before.
Prepare for between seven to two years waiting time from the the time your application is approved.by ICAB. They are extremely busy.
