Hello :)
We have recently switched from Russia to Bulgaria and are in the process of re-documenting and compiling another dossier.
It seems that Bulgaria requires an additional FBI check in addition to the one we had done when we were fingerprinted for our I-600A? We already have I-171H approval, and are in the process of simply changing the country from Russia to Bulgaria.
I was just wondering WHY we have to be fingerprinted by the FBI again. Isn't the first one that we had done for the I-171H sufficient??
Thanks,
Therese
Well, I can't specifically explain why they require both, but with the FBI fingerprints they actually have the fingerprint card with your prints. The FBI simply puts a clearance stamp on the back and you will then do a cover letter with it that gets notorized and then get an apostille on it. The immigration clearance is just a letter, no prints. Just got done doing all this and sending it off to Bulgaria several weeks ago so it's all still fresh in my mind.
Good luck!

The FBI were very fast and efficient about turning around these prints. Just put a cover letter on that says you are doing this for adoption and they process and mail it back the same day they receives it. Bulgaria just likes to see the real prints.

I am coming up on the 6 month mark on my medicals and so I have to renew those but now my agency says that the FBI prints have to be redone every 6 months. Anyone else aware of this? I use an agency in Sofia.
I know that our INS approval is good for 18 months right? What else should I be worried about right now to keep on top of this?
It is my understanding that the Medical, FBI and local police clearance expire every 6 months. It is in your best interest to keep them updated.

I updated all three but my agency in Sofia says just FBI and medical. I chose to do the State because I do not want confusion at the end and hope to forestall it.

I thought I recently read somewhere (can't remember where though) that it is no longer necessary to update every six months. Not sure if this is true or not. Does anyone have any current info on this?
This came out of the last big MoJ meeting but I was under the old sytem due to the fact that our's expired Dec 2004 and we received referral Dec 2004. We renewed everything in Dec and took it with us in Jan 2005 and we filed the final dossier with our acceptance and all the forms and prints end of January. We are hoping for a court date this month. Be vigalent on your documents for expired HS agency documents too. Our's expired Feb 28th and we picked it up and had no problems later.

It is all very confusing. According to my Bulgarian attorney I don't have to have new medicals, fingerprints, local police clearance until we are ready for the court date. Now I'm under the new law apparently (who knows any longer) so it may be different. The fingerprint is pretty easy since you just have to get the report and have it apostilled. Dana
