Hello all!
I have been a browser of this site for over a year now and I finally may just ACTUALLY be a foster mom.
I just talked to our case worker and she said she is just waiting on our fingerprints to come back and then it will be a go!! She said she is thinking any week now they will be back and then all we need is our "approval" and she could call us with a baby.
We have 2 bio children ages 7 and 6 and we have requested to start out with short-term care infants.
We are thinking it will be easier for our children to adjust to the babies coming and going if they are only here for a short time to start out with.
I am simply looking for words of advice. As you can see from my children's ages, it has been a while since a baby has been in the house.
What would your BEST advice be?
FYI...I am in Berks County PA...if anyone has had experience in PA, please feel free to expand!
Thanks!
I look forward to having even MORE in common with you all soon!

Hi,I don't know if you became a foster mom yet, but I would like some info if possible about this whole thing. I live in Allentown, Pa. and I'm thinking about fostering. I have a 2 year old son, and just moved here a year ago. I do not know anyone. I also do not drive. Will this be a problem? Do you have to do a lot of traveling?

It takes a special heart to foster - so KUDOS to you for wanting to open your home!!!! :)
Although there is quite a bit of driving involved. When you get a referral (a call that a child needs placement) you have to go pick up the child and then there are visitations with birth families once every week or so. You will also have to be at court hearings, doctor's appts, etc.
Email me if you would like more info.
Call Catholic Social Agency (that's who we are working with) and ask them what they would suggest if you wanted to get into fostering but don't drive.
Our social worker is in the Allentown office - just call and say you have foster care questions and they will connect you with someone.
God BLess,
