My partner and I were told today that we will not get a foster placement until after Christmas because CPS won't allow it. Were were told that the children go to private shelters during the holidays. Is this true?

Well, not sure about Houston (I saw your other post). My experience in NYS and what I have heard from others is that the county usually gets children/infants to place first. Then if they can not find a placement, they try the private agencies.
I have heard that there are busier periods for placements and slower periods. We have always been full during the holidays so never had a call. I would imagine that if children were removed during the holidays, they would place them wherever there was room.
Keep in mind that most infants have older siblings coming into placements with them. We waited about 4 months for our first placement because we only had room for/ only wanted one. However. after we got started, we haven't gone long without a placement and are currently fostering 2 with the hopes of adoption.

Leaabc123,
We are hoping to foster newborns to 3yr.olds and may take in 2 to 3 at a time. We hope to adopt an infant and a boy between the ages of 3 and 7. We have a bd that is 5. We have just gotten really frustrated waiting, and waiting, and waiting....then once we decide to foster to help some beautiful children who need us, we get told that we will have to wait until next year to be considered for placement no matter what. Thanks for your response!

Everything varies state to state and agency to agency. We were just discussing opening up to accept holiday placements because I know they are always so busy during the holidays and especially need homes for newborns that can't go into daycare. Hmmmm

We were just told yesterday that we should be finalized with our licensing in about a week or so and that the holidays are a very busy time so expect a call soon. We started this whole process last January and because we moved from one county to another in June right before our home study we almost started from scratch all over again. It has been a long year but I am so glad that we are almost done. That is unless they find things missing from our file or they have questions that werent already answered hopefully that wont happen because I am tired of waiting.
