Hello,
I posted this message in another spot too. Not sure it was the right place so here it is again:
My husband and I looking for advice from anyone who has experience with adoption and lives in NC. Advice on agencies, the process-whatever you have for us is welcomed!
Please private message with your advice.
We live in Winston-Salem and we are currently looking at the following adoption agencies:
Family Services in W-S
A Child's Hope in Raleigh
Independent Adoption Center in Raleigh (they also have other locations so if anyone has had experience with them elsewhere, please private message us)
Thank you!!
Amanda
Hi Amanda,
I have adopted two children in NC. My daughter I adopted at 4 years old from Social Services and my Son at 3 days old. I picked my son up from the hospital. The paper work was the hold-up on him. His mom had given birth and then left the hospital signing away her parental rights because she didn't want to parent then the father had to be found and he signed his parental rights away. I am a foster/adoptive mom. I had also looked into international adoption and domestic but went the foster/adoption route. I attended Mapp classes for about 8-10 weeks that taught me about the problems that may arise with foster/adoptees and how to deal with them. Going the foster/adopted route can be difficult at times because you get emotionally attached to a child and then often they go back to their birthmom. However, I don't know of a foster family that wanted to adopt a child that hasn't be able to. There are many children out there that need loving homes and they can finally become yours. It may take a while but I know that going through foster and adoption you will be able to adopt. It also nice because their are so many different age ranges. Internationally adoption is also good if you can afford the fee and are up to the paper work. I work with a man who adopted a Russian baby. He finally got her around 6 months and she is doing real well. It cost him around $26,000 whereas foster/adoption cost are about $40 for the filing fee. I hope this helps! Carol

Thank you it does help me. Did you adopt your son through Social Services too? What county do you live in?
Amanda,
We do not live in NC any longer, but when we did we adopted our son through the IAC. I will pm you with our story if you are interested.

I don't live in Nc but I have family that lives there and they called me last week giving me the info on Childrens home society, it actually sounds pretty good but it sounds like you have to be a local resident. Just in case that helps

Bethany Homes in Asheville is also a good place to help you find a child to adopt domestically or internationally.
