I have been married to my wife for 6 years. My stepson is 7. He has had NO contact with his bio father for 4+ years. We live in California. I want to adopt him. I have been in contact with the Bio father who is willing to sign the constent form IF the adoption is OPEN. I have been in contact with a family attorney (with some adoption experience, but not his focus) who suggested this is OK IF we have a contract stipulating terms of the "openess". Has anyone heard of such a thing? Does anyone have examples? He suggested I just write out a "contract" between bio and us stating what expectations we have if he wants to engage with our son. This sounds somewhat unofficial and don't want to make a mistake bringing this to court. Any Help? Thank you, Tim
