We just finished terminating parental rights on my (step) son's donor. We found out we will be moving to Indiana in the next few months. We thought the adoption would be done, but now AZ is requiring a social study, even though two years ago, I adopted my (step) daughter after removing parental rights of her donor. They also try to gouge anybody that makes over $50,000 by charging a $400 fee on top of the $600-1000 a private agency will charge for the study.
With her it took about 6 months from the start of the study to the actual adoption.
We need to know if we would be better off to move to Indiana and start the adoption process over or if we should try to wait it out here?
Has anybody been through a step-parent adoption in Indiana? How much did the social study cost and how long did the adoption take?
We just want this over with. It has been in the process for 5 years.
Sorry---that is my wife's terminology. Donor = sperm donor = the deadbeats that are totally missing out on some AWESOME kids. She created that term to avoid confusion since they both think of me when the word father, or daddy is used.
What is Al??

Thanks for the clarification. He is no longer the child's father since his rights have been terminated.
