My partner and I have been trying to figure out why we were told that we couldn't have a foster placement until after Christmas. We were told that foster children that come in during the holidays go to "private shelters". We decided to contact several CPS offices and were told that it wasn't a CPS policy. We then emailed the president of our agency with this email.... "We were told that (our agency) doesn't place foster children in foster homes during the holidays. We are licensed foster parents waiting for up to 2 children ages 0 to 3yrs. Can you please explain where the children go during the holidays if they aren't placed in a foster home? We really want to help children and don't understand why we cant have a foster child (or 2) placed with us before next year. We were under the impression that the state was desperate for foster and adoptive homes. Our goal is to adopt one or two foster children if they become available for adoption. We have been approved to adopt since April." Thank You, Our case wroker called today and chewed my partner out because we sent that email. We were told to be at our agency's office on Monday to meet with the manager of our agency. Our case worker said that she didn't want to be at the meeting and was being hostile. We are needing advice on how to explain why we sent the email, and how to cool things off with them. We didn't mean to make anyone mad and are afraid that our agency is going to dump us. Please help. I'm not sure what there talking about, I have done fc for 2 years, and have been told time and again that holidays are there busiest times. Maybe you should think about going through the county. County places at all times. How did your meeting go? I don't understand why they were so mad at there own words, you were just wanting it to be explained, please lat us know what happened.
Yes. we did indeed get a placement, but they were only with us for 4 days. I think the only reason we got the placement was because our case worker, and the agancy manager were out of town so they didn't have any say so in the matter. Once our CW found out, she had a hissy fit. There was a hearing concerning the children last Tues. and the judge ordered the children to be returned home. We were shocked and heartbroken. Now that our CW is in control I doubt we will get another placement for a LONG time. I hope I am wrong though! Missyfan
We have a new baby. She was placed with us on Dec. 1st! She is still with us and should be with us for atleast a few months. She came to us at 6 weeks old. She was a preemie. We are SOOOOO happy!!! We will only take children under 2 because we have a BD who is 5 and it is what will fit best in our household. Thanks for your post!
