Hi. I am trying to locate some info. on where I can order personalized books for children. I have a three-year old (that is leaving us soon  ) and we have a five-month old.
Also, I know that there is a talking Elmo that can be personalized with child's name, birth date, etc. Are there any other toys out there that can be personalized - that does not cost an "arm and a leg"?
We want to buy Gregory several things that he can take with him that can be personalized FOR HIM.
Does anyone know of where we can order blankets, pillowcases, a small suitcase and etc. that we can have his name and other info. put on?
Cost is a concern so I am hoping to locate some "things" that are reasonably priced.
Just an fyi.....my child LOVES and I mean LOVES anything that deals with farming.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. :thankyou:
Christina
I can't help, I just want to say I have been meaning to answer you PM, but life....
I am still hoping that on Dec. 19th the judge gets a clue, and does NOT give a date for Gregory to leave. It is so pointless to do this to a child.
I have had you and Gregory in my thoughts for months, and will continue. I hope you have shocking GOOD news after the hearing.

Go to Edited to remove retail website and you will see lots of personalized blankets, books, suitcases and jewelry. They even have school supplies that can have their name on it.

spitzlvr - thanks for your kind words. We are hoping for the same - even though we know that the Judge has already ruled that Gregory goes back. Please continue praying for us. Shocking good news would be wonderful!!!
BL - I received your PM - thanks. I will look into it.
Thanks.

Ebay is a GREAT resource for personalized items. Just search "custom name" or personalized.
I am in the process of making my younger cousins a sports themed wall hanging with their name on it. If you are interested let me know. If you pay for supplies and shipping, I will make it for no charge.
Have you looked into seamstress' in your own town? We wanted stockings with our kids names on them and found several seamstresses in town that do embroidrey with their sewing machines on just about anything. It only cost me $6 a name to have her do it.
Also, Pottery Barn is not cheap but they do have a lot of items you can personalize.
Good luck!

Lillian Vernon has tons of personalized toys, blankets, etc. Some are reasonable, some are not so, but still.......

Dawn's is a very good suggestion. Go to your local sewing store and they will usually have a box or billboard of business cards (as well as friendly workers behind the cutting table) that will be a great resource. Their machines are programmed just the same as in the fancy shopping centers to do the monogrammed letters and even embroidered pictures. You could pick up a simple piece of John Deere fleece while you are there for a really inexpensive blanket.
You can also use a wood burner (which come cheap at craft stores) to put his name on wooden toys, but that probably wouldn't look as professional. Or you could get a gold leaf pen and write it on.
You could get him a simple farm set toy and construct a sign for the farm with his name on it.
You could purchase an inexpensive small plate and bowl. I am not familiar with the technique but I know it must be simple to decorate it then cover over it with a glaze as kindergartners come home with ones they made. You could use a clingy type sticker perhaps of a tractor or some such and paint his name beneath. Or even sticker his name beneath. Then glaze over it with the correct stuff.
If you know someone with a bandsaw, you could make a personalized puzzle for him with your own hands. Doesn't require much skill at all. Ones like this are really easy to make. (mods, not commercial, just the picture.) All they do is print out the name in the desired layout then attach the paper to a thin (like 1/4 inch I suppose) piece of wood. Cut around the lines. That makes the holes and the letters. Then a new piece is glued to the back, a paint job is done, and all is reassembled. Those things sell for a fortune around here and you could make it in less than 30 minutes.
If you have more skill than that (and a drill), you could go for a thicker piece of wood on the back and four large dowels for feet. Walla! A personalized step stool that looks like this. (Again it is solely a picture.)
Or you could make a simple peg shelf. Piece of wood, four holes in it. Get pre-bought pegs and stick them in holes with a little glue. Glue letter cut-outs to top of piece of wood. You could also cut out a farm animal or tractor. There are simple designs that you could work with. Again, this is a 30-45 minute job requiring very little cost.
Make a pillow (perhaps out of a memorable piece of material from around the house) and stencil with fabric pens or paint on it. Or before sewing it up, have the ladies at the sewing store embroider on it.
Make a small throw quilt. Ask family and friends for donations of squares of fabric in the right size (7x7 or 12x12 for example). Then put memories and well wishes on each square of the blanket (or have them place a memory or well wish on the square before they send it). There's also a way to have pictures printed onto the squares. You can sash and sew it yourself or have someone else assemble it for you. For simple squares, it doesn't cost much at all. Do a google image search for memory quilt and see the numerous ways it can be done.
Consider sending home a Christmas ornament. You can make some very cheaply. You can paint on glass balls and you can even take the tops off and put stuff inside (like a picture or favorite items) on large clear ones. Consider printing on a piece of transparency paper so that the light will shine through the ornament and the picture.
A wooden cross can have the child's name engraved upon it. (As can a metal one, I suppose!)
Any piece of furniture (like a child sized footstool or rocking chair) can be painted with the child's name.
You could purchase several small metal tags (an inch or two in diameter) and have them engraved with initials or a name and then attach the tags to thinks like the front of a suitcase or the tummy of a bear.
Or you can purchase a pillowcase then have that embroidered. You could do the pillow and the blanket to match if you wanted. For example, get a couple pieces of quilter's fabrics (cotton--and usually pretty inexpensive) in farm motifs (cows, John Deere, etc) and complementing colors (green for example). Then on the back do all the personalized memories and well wishes. With a matching sheet set and pillow case, you've got an inexpensive but wonderful gift.
Or even less time consuming and expensive is two complementing pieces of thin fleece to make a lovie blanket. (Maybe farm animals on one, solid color on the other.) Embroider his name across the corner of the solid piece, then sew them together. Or hire someone local to do it. It won't cost much at all. (Cost of fabric, cost of personalization, cost of labor--about 30 minutes at most.)
A kid's sleeping bag from an inexpensive store like WalMart can be embroidered.
Purchase inexpensive books then inscribe them on the front cover. Be sure to write a little more than just the name and date. You could do a little poem, quote a couple words, say why it reminded you of him, wish him well in the future, ask for God's blessings upon him, etc.
Do a google search for personalized gifts and you will see tons of things to get your mind thinking.
Also, check out Oriental Trading Co as they have lots of personalized stuff. You can do a search for something like *p and it will bring them all up.
Hope that gets your gears turning!
LadyBugz,
WOW - thanks for the info. We were given a "return" date yesterday and I am getting upset just thinking about him leaving us.
But.....a Judge decided to play God and there is nothing else that we can do about it.
I will look over your "list" and see what I can get accomplished.
Thanks to everyone else for the info.
