I cannot find a way to make this fit into my blog's theme of Ukrainian adoption. And honestly I also hesitate to blog about Emma because I really, really, really think she sucks as a human being.Maybe it will fit into "International Adoption". Maybe Sass could blog about it.A little history about Emma. Normally she is Baroness Emma Nicholson, but I don't feel like typing her title today. She is a British citzen who worked/works for the EU government.I really dislike this woman in case you cannot tell. She issues so many bizarre statements not based on fact. And she issues quite a few on adoption. For anyone who doesn't know it, Emma had a major hand in shutting down Romanian adoption. She was the EU representative who strongly advised changes to the adoption system in Romania. And Romania was trying to join the EU at that time so there was a lot of power in Emma's "recommendations". I remember something from one of her reports on Romanian adoption. I believe that she claimed that she had proof of people buying children for their organs. But yet, she never provided any proof. The article below contains an interview with Emma Nicholson and her beliefs. She claims that Spain is the child pornography capital of Europe.http://www.tol.cz/look/TOL/article.tpl?IdLanguage=1&IdPublication=4&NrIssue=153& NrSection=2&NrArticle=15810&tpid=8 I posted this news article on www.frua.org/chat_main.html and got a reply. They found Emma's web site and pulled a quote off it.http://www.emmanicholson.org.uk/http://www.emmanicholson.org.uk/downloads/adoption%20wall%20street%20journal%20a rticle.pdf"The second common misunderstanding is that children who go through the process of inter-country adoption all end up in happy homes. Sadly they do not.Whilst it is true that some children have ended up with loving, happy families it is also likely that these vulnerable children will wind up being subjected to child prostitution, pedophilia and domestic servitude." I'd be very careful... blog it if you want of course, but the quote comes from her Feb 2005 WSJ article about Romania and although I know there's a lot of new anger at the finality of the latest announcements, bringing up her old quotes made (and argued over) at that time would need to be done very cautiously.

Sass... Yeah, I wouldn't want to stir things up too much. I know that several American families (non-pipeline cases) who had referrals are trying to lobby Romanian government officials to allow their adoptions to take place. But they aren't really holding out any hope. The Romanian law only allows bio-family to adopt children now.I will think about an approach for writing a blog on Emma then. Maybe something on adoption shutdowns?Sass could I send you a copy to review? Especially since I have some strong negative feelings towards Emma.AngelaNatasha a 12/5/2000http://ukraine.adoptionblogs.com/
