Hi. I just wanted to know if the whole process is almost over. On June 10 we have our last meeting and on June 13 we have our home visit. I keep forgetting to ask if we are almost done and I was wondering if someone could help me. I thought we would be done after they check out our home, but I keep seeing where some of you have two home visits. I'm so excited to be done and see when our first placement will be. We are only taking infants and they said the wait could be long, so should I still get the basics around? I have three children of my own they are 14, 11 and 5 but I feel like I could just burst with excitement when I think of helping out a little one. Even though I have my own kids, I'm still nervous. Is this normal? src3
I had two visits but it was because the first social worker quit before finishing the paperwork and the new social worker had to redo some steps, including the home inspection. The first visit was at the end of January and I found out only yesterday that I'm officially approved. I suspect they "rushed" the paperwork this week because I have a ten-year-old girl here as an emergency placement right now.

We had one home visit- the second all of our paper work was in order we were placed immediately. Not with an infant but a teenager. The wait for an infant is much longer because more people are willing to take them then the older kids.
It depends on the need in your area- and how quickly the organization you work for moves. So it is different for every family.
I was soooo nervous the first time we took a child- but if it's truly what you heart says to do you will just swell with love and care for these kids that you didn't think was possible.
Good luck- Rachele
My advice would be to start getting the necessities for the age group that you are wanting.
We wanted infant - 5 and were told that the wait would be approx. 6 months and that summer was a slow time, etc, etc. So I figured that I would have the summer to "prepare" although mentally I have been preparing my whole life. :-)
We were licensed on May 2 and got our call for placement of a sibling group on May 11. 10 month old twins and a 3 year old. We were thrilled and had to stop at Wal-Mart on the way to pick them up to buy car seats. We didn't have anything really, no highchair, no bibs, no clothes. We have wonderful friends and family that helped us get through the first week, but now we are all settled and loving every single minute of it.
So, long story short, start getting things now (at yard sales and clearance stuff) so that you will be prepared because you just never know when you will get that call!
Good Luck to you!
