Does anyone know what the rules are regarding bedrooms on different levels? We have a one story house, and we are thinking of putting in a playroom and a bedroom or two in the basement. I know bedrooms have to have a window, etc. But I was wondering if children can be on a different level than the adults? Is there an age requirement? This wouldn't even matter as far as adoption, but we were interested in becoming a respite family.

I live in Ohio, and we were told foster children can only sleep on the 1st and 2nd floor. Bio's can sleep in the basement or on a 3rd floor, but not foster children! We have a bedroom in the basement that cannot be used.

We had a house with a bedroom in the basement. According to our social worker, it could be used so long as the fire inspector ok'd it.

It depends on where you live. I am in cuyahoga county and having a bedroom in the basement is not allowed unless you have a separate exit in the basement. You can have a window well is what they call it but it has to be a full length window. I just had my inspection a few months ago from fire department and that is what they told me. Good luck. :)
