My husband and I want to adopt another child into our home. We have a two-year-old biological daughter and cannot have any more children. We can't afford huge adoption fees, so we applied to our county children and youth services office as foster parents. We were approved in December. The foster parent coordinator knows we'd love to adopt an infant or toddler younger than our daughter. Since we were approved, we received one call for a three-year-old who was only with us for one day. We're anxious to have another placement. Is there anything else we should do? Should we inquire with neighboring county CYS agencies? We're a very rural area, so I get the feeling our CYS offices aren't as busy as the larger urban areas and maybe that's why we haven't been called. I spoke to an experienced foster parent at a foster parent function (the FP coordinator introduced us so she could share her experiences). She's been fostering 9 years and has adopted three children, all under the age of 2 when she got them. So, I'm hopeful, but restless!
Any advice would be most appreciated!
Thanks!
Sandy

Sissy22,
Are you from a rural area as well? Have you adopted foster children? If so, how long did it take before you were able to adopt your first? I'm interested in hearing other folks' experiences here in PA.
We have friends in a neighboring county who received their first placement, a four-month old girl, shortly after being approved and then were able to adopted her at the age of 2. We were so excited to get our first placement and then sort of let down when she was only here one day.
Im in PA. I was getting a call for placements at least 1x every week or two since October. However, the past 4 weeks we haven't heard a peep. I sent a reminder email to our intake coordinator and she thanked me for keeping in contact, but said that Jan was a very slow month. She said they are in a lull. We are with a private agency that takes from 4 or so surrounding counties, so its not like its just one county that hasn't been busy with new kids. I would just call or email your POC and remind them you are there, ready and willing. Good luck!
