Ok, first recently friends of the family adopted from I think Utah, was just before Christmas.
This adoption cost them over 20k dollars. Esp since they were stuck in a hotel with this child for weeks, untill PA aloud them to bring him into the state.
So anyone want to offer up some information about this process?? To think that if we adopt out of state we could end up in the 20k range is a nightmare.
I thought we were one country, one Nation... I don't have to get any special paper work to pack up and move to West Virginia, so if I have custody of these children why would PA, have a say in anything??
Please explain this to me..
Hi,
For 20K the Utah child must have been an infant. We are going through the process with an older child. Our PA agency is fully engaged and working with her agency in Ohio. Unless Utah is particularly hostile, there should be no reason for a problem. Weeks in a hotel is also odd. We are going through 2 weekends since we are making the trip from PA. The last visit will be her coming out for a weekend.
We are one nation, but still the United STATES, so it's 50 somewhat independent states all with a little different bent on adoption. We are finding that the basics are pretty much the same.

GeeGee-
Are you referring to ICPC? If so, it is not just PA. If you are not a resident of the state wher the baby was born, you can not take the baby across state lines until ICPC is complete. Ours took 13 days but I think that was a little on the longer side, from what I have heard. It is important to have a good adoption attorney that is well schooled in the state's laws - beacause they all vary.
I stand corrected...we're in ICPC process since yesterday. This is between OH and PA. It doesn't sound that bad. Columbus ICPC gets the packet from the county agency, they send it to Harrisburg ICPC in PA. Each side of the fense works only with the local agency. A recent home study is best, since they can request it be re-done if it's old. It's a red tape, formality process to approve the hand off that adds about 4 weeks I'm told.
Not too bad....but now a living, breathing and already broken human being gets to wait while the adults drag things out.
The more the "system" improves, the more it stays the same, huh?
