I have seen similar threads to this one so I know others are impatient as well :)
It took forever for my new state to certify me - it was ridiculous considering they've had ALL of my paperwork for 8 months. The only thing they had to do was write my homestudy and it turns out they got my homestudy from my old state and basically just rewrote it. Yeah seriously.
Anyway - as of Thursday I'm certified.
I said I would take a girl of ANY age and a boy that is younger than 8 (younger than my son)... I said I preferred a sibling group. They asked if I would take a pregnant teen and I said yes. They asked if I would take any race and I said yes.
I asked them how long before I have a placement - I realize they can't predict those things but an average time frame would be nice.
My answer was "it shouldn't be too long."
I bought a new bedset for the "girls" room and my son's room already had new bedding for the extra bed. I'm getting another dresser today just in case we need one and cleaning up the rooms.
I just wish I had SOME idea on how long. I know that it won't be too long because I'm so open to ages but "too long" doesn't tell me much. "too long" to me means a week or two. "too long" to them could mean 5 months.
I'm planning some trips in April - which the foster children will join us on - but I need to know if they will be here or not so I can plan accordingly. This is annoying.
(P.S. When my son was placed I was picky on the age range and they told me I might be waiting 6 months for a child that would be a fit. I was okay with that. He was placed 3 weeks later. I guess I just assume that this placement will be so much quicker since I'm not pick on the age.)
I used to glare at my phone, knowing that it would ring as I was packing for vacation or something - a vacation with limited reservation spaces or some other thing to preclude suddenly adding to the number of people going. :D Usually I got calls at the weirdest times, but somehow we always managed to work out our schedule and get things squared away for whatever contingency came up.
As to when...well...sometimes there aren't that many children coming into the foster system, or needing to be moved, so there isn't an immediate need for a foster family. Then, withing 36 hours or some equally ridiculous amount of time, they'll get 4 sibling groups of 3-7 kids each and need TONS of beds to accomodate all the new kids coming into foster care.
I used to eat chocolate while I was waiting. Wait...I always eat chocolate! Ok, it was really just an excuse to beef up my stash.

I'm definitely impatient. Once I had my license I was ready to have a child in my home by that night. Weeks later I still had nothing. I tried to convince myself that was a good thing though, maybe that meant for at least those few weeks, boys and girls between the age of 0 and 11 were safe. :)
I'm not delusional, but I am exceptionally good at wishful thinking. :)
