wondering if other states are as low in taking placements away as Indiana is. It seems there are alot of empty homes. Just wondered if it was a country wide thing or just Indiana.
Hi! I don't know if it's the county or the state. We are licensed in DeKalb, and never got a placement in a year. We are now fostering to adopt out of the IN picturebook, so it was worth getting licensed, but I know of at least one other family who had never gotten a call after six or eight months. They keep screaming that they need foster parents, but when we ask (repeatedly!) why we got no placements, we got nothing. One person did mutter something about the kids they were getting into the system were 'too damaged' for a family setting. I really don't know!
We're still interested in doing foster care, but til things settle down with our new F/AD we're letting it go.:coffee:

We are from St Joesph county I have gotten a call for 2 placements neither one of them came to large of a sibling group only have room for two they say the same thing here lack of foster families
I'm with a city and now the county organization so it's slower... They only needed to do ONE thing (that took a week) to certify me - but they took 9 months to do it.... So they obviously didn't NEED a home bad.
Then I was empty for about 2 months. Had a 6 week placement. Then was empty for about a month. Then got a call for a potential 3 sibling placement - that didn't happen and 3 days later they called with my current 2 sibling placement.
I talked to another Fparent in the city and she said she went 9 months with nothing BUT I'm not sure if it's because they didn't want to place with her or if things were slow.
I know that with the city things will be slower than if I'd gone with the large county...
It's a good thing it's slow because it means more families are staying together I suppose.. .but I know it's hard to get certified and to wait forever for a placement...
If you look on the Texas board there is a thread about not recieving many calls. We have been empty for almost two months.

We are in Texas and have had a vacancy since Aug 1st. But yet everyone tells me that they are still needing homes. Frankly, I just don't see it.
Sure is strange... :)

Well our county director told our foster parenting group tonight that they are in desperate need of FP's who will take emergency placements. We told her that we'd be willing to do that. So she said to call first thing tomorrow and let the lady in charge of the paperwork know. She says they've had newborns hanging out in their office while they frantically try to find somewhere to put them just recently.
So maybe we'll be joining the craziness. We'll only be able to take kids younger than school age, though, because we don't want to deal with public school hassles unless it's part of a foster-to-adopt placement for us. Our bio kids are homeschooled, and I don't want to throw their schedules into chaos, either. We talked to our girls tonight about what "emergency placement" would mean and they were all for it. We'll see how it goes!
