So, I've mostly been reading everyone elses blogs, and gaining strength from others, but did want to let you all know of the great news! We had court on Tuesday. Our situation was that the bio father hadn't seen or paid child support in 6 years. I have been married for less than a year but been with my husband since my daughter was 10 months old.
Her father showed to the abandonment hearing!!! Not a word from him but he showed. Anyway, he came with his mother and no atty. Our atty basically filed contempt paperwork for the lack of child support which got him to then sign the consent paperwork. Unfortunately we thought the adoption would be the same day, since that's what the court investigating supervisor told us. But we have to now schedule it and our atty is filing the paperwork so it should be sometime in October. At least then we'll know that we are going there for a sure thing and no "what ifs."
This website has been of great comfort to me. I always thought that stepparent adoptions were so rare and no one could possibly understand the complexities. Thank you to everyone for your support.

Stepparent adoptions are much more common than one would imagine!
Had your lawyer filed the petition for adoption at the same time he filed the TPR with the courts, then you probably would have had your court date on the same day, but the TPR is the hard part, and you have that out of the way!
I hope that you have a wonderful time celebrating your adoption once it is completed!
