Hello, everyone!
I'm new to all of this and am just starting to look into foster-to-adoption programs -- just got the agency list from SWAN in the mail today. I'm from the Pittsburgh area and would really appreciate any info anyone has on agencies in this area. Anyone with an agency they would reccommend, etc. We are looking to foster young children (elementary school or younger) of any race, sex, religion, etc., with hopes to adopt. Please PM me with any recommendations. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I contacted the Allegheny County's Office of Childrenm Youth & Families, a public agency. They have a need for foster parents. The goal is always reunification of the foster child with their parents, but the sad truth is that many don't ever achieve that goal. If you've been fostering a child (and that child has been in the system for 15 out of 22 months) you can then be eligible to adopt them if they can't be returned to their parents. I've met several people locally who fostered then later adopted through the county in this way. You won't have to pay any expenses to become a foster parent, or later to adopt children that you've been fostering if they can't be reunited with their family and their goal changes to a permanent solution such as adoption.
Since we are in Butler county, we're going with our county's Children & Youth Agency here in Butler. Here's a link to Allegheny County's home page for more information: DHS Office of Children, Youth and Families.
Good luck!
P.S. I hope that it was Ok to name these agencies. I think that it is because they are public agencies.
