I'm looking for anyone that might have access to the CA birth index. I'm helping someone to search for his birth family - he has no surname(s) to go on. He was born in San Francisco on June 11, 1948. I'm wondering if it's possible to find a surname for his birth parent(s) on the birth index. Many thanks. Any help, ideas, suggestions, and or information is welcome.
You can search the CA B/Index at Ancestry.com for free.
Don't forget to check the registry on this site for any matches.
Kind regards,
Dickons

Searching on 06 11 1948, male, San Francisco resulted in 31 records. You'll want to requery, as the results do not post well in the forum.
I too was born and adopted in SF; in my case I had two birth index listings (illegitimate status). From the above 31 records, I didn't see a record where the birth name matched the mother's maiden name, so you'll have to figure out the next step in narrowing the 31 records.
If non-identifying information has been obtained, filing CA ADForm 904, the adoptee may have a birth first name, which would certainly narrow your results. Non-ID info from CA at Information On Your Adoption
Once parent's surname has been discovered, the SF Public library may help. I was able to search through SF Phone books (by year) and located a listing for one of my parents.
Good luck.
