I start my fostering classes December 3rd, I'm sooooo excited I've already started buying things, my ages are (0- 2). my questions are, When is the right time to start buying things? Can the babies sleep in a bassinet? What should I buy?How soon did you start getting placements? THANK YOU!
We started getting calls right after our license but the first three fell through before they ever reached us so we learned not to believe they are coming until they are on your door step.
You can start getting things anytime. Babies can sleep in a bassinette but they can also sleep in a crib with a baby monitor if your room is close by. We have air conditioning in the one window in our bedroom and do not want the babies to get cold so the set up is for them to be in the children's room right next door about ten steps away.
Some things I suggest you ask friends for if they have children who have outgrown them. I think the mattresses should be new but that is my preference.
Freecycle.org is a good place to get things as well. Put a post for what you are looking for and how far you are willing to travel and people lt you know what they have. (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)

Congrats! A bassinet is fine for a baby up to three months. You will need a crib set up for your home inspection. Good luck!
If you have one mattress to use with a toddler bed or the crib, would it be okay to just have the toddler bed set up?
My understanding is that the home inspector needs to see the crib set up to ensure that it meets all of the safety guidelines...you may want to check with your agency. Good luck!

We also started classses on Dec. 3rd!!!! It has been great. I started buying stuff already. One of the local churches has a clothes room and once a month they have a bag sale all you can stuff in a "wal-mart" sack for 5 dollars!!! I have gotten some really cute things, and really nice toddler clothes.
we didn't need a crib or anything for our home inspection. is that a regional thing? we are with a private agency and when they brought our baby to us they brought a bassinett. had he stayed longer they would have brougth a crib.
