DH and I adopted two wonderful children over a year ago. Since then we have talked about adding more to the family. The kids would welcome any and all children.
It turns out that I have kin in FC out of state. We offered our home as a last resort option if TPR is the decided course of action. We got a call that the kids were being placed with us. Their state would have moved them tomorrow ( one of the suggested dates). TPR has not happened but the judge feels that neither parent is doing what they need to. The grandparents would take the kids and are in the county where the kids are in care. Because they were trying to be a support for the parents DHS feels that they are not whats best for the kids. This puts us in the middle of the mess, darned if we do and darned if we don't. The CW there is ready to move the kids and our LW here was taken by surprise. Our FC liscense was closed over a year ago. The ICPC offices all think we are good to go. We are still running around like chickens.... According to the kids state they will be move before the end of May. There is a contested permanancy hearing in June. We are excited about the future but still feeling like newbies because of the ICPC and kinship issues. We are preparing as best as we can but still wonder if they would really bounce 3 children under 5 years old to a home 2500miles away and then RU.
Hi In Limbo,
From what I have learned, you are in a strong position because you are a kin to those kids. It also looks like the courts really don't feel it's a good idea to return them to their bioparents.
Get thos PRIDE classes done and get those babies moved in.
Best of luck to you!

One class down and 2 to go. The trainer said she figures they must be heading toward TPR in June. The only other kin is the home where the injury happened. While DHS didn't bring charges against anyone but Bio-father they are still using the event to bias their decision. She also said that things could happen as fast as the ICPC offices want it to because we are kin. The projected move date is May 28th and we finish PRIDE on May 21st. The kids should be here in time for the summer fun.
There's no way they can move across state lines without ICPC - especially not in a day. Even with guardianship, it takes time.
We were able to start our icpc prior to our foster licence being complete. Turns out for kinship, the foster license was a "nice to have" but not required.
The big hurdle is getting both states to sign off. that can take a month or 2.. or up to a year.
My DD was transfered here (across state lines) prior to TPR. we had monthly visitations that required travel.
The ICPC was started in November 2010. Our state requires licensing for all kinship placements. The timing is the only question. We are getting things in order and then waiting on the 2 states, and praying.
