I have been a fully approved foster parent for 1 year/ 2years if you count the year everything was done but they didn't finalize my papers until they found a 'fit'
I am with a state/county agency and only taking kids under 3. In the 2 years so far I have received 3 calls.
The first we turned down due to age (we just don't have anything in that age group) and severity of issues. The second we took and LOVED but it was only a weekend (ended up Gma came forward after finding out BMom actually meant she couldn't take it anymore PTL) and the last we turned down because of age and medical issues I didn't feel prepared to handle (child was severely beaten and hospitalized for over a week..still on a liquid diet and lots of don't dos and make he he does)
When I got the last call I found out my caseworker (foster parents have one and the kids have one too) changed positions and I hadn't even heard. contact has been so sparse, but its also not like I've been calling everyday either (we called alot in the beginning)
So I'm wondering if we should try to switch agencies...but then if we did would we have to go through all the hoops again? or would they take the copies of the referrals we already used?
any suggestions of agencies please feel free to PM me, I live in Phillly.
**also, to note I am expecting the end of September, though this has no baring on why they hadn't called (there was no note in my file when called a few weeks ago) I don't plan on doing anything too drastic until mid oct, or so.**

I personally don't recommend you switch agencies. Not if you're looking for 3 and under with relatively mild issues. Those children are usually the easiest to place and the county will look to it's own resource parents long before they farm out to an agency. As it is, the agencies usually get the older kids, or those with special needs since they are harder to place. You may just want to drop a line to the foster care supervisor (or a liason if your county has one) and let them know you're still there. From what I've been reading, it must be 'slow' right now. That, or with the economy and PA budget crisis right now, counties are trying to keep the kids in the home for as long as safely possible. Good luck and congrats on your September baby!
