Anyone have a child that his missing this? We will be adopting a child this year sometime w/ this disorder. Just wondering if anyone has personal experience. Looked it all up on the web but someone w/ personal experience is what i'm looking for. This is a young girl btw. Just wondering what to look for or be aware of. Thanks so much.
Our son has significant damage to his corpus collusum, but it is present. He also has severe damage to other parts of his brain. In our case, he has very poor impulse control, is BEYOND hyperactive (he does not sit still EVER unless strapped into a stroller or booster seat - and I mean NEVER) He is essentially non-verbal, he has both an autism diagnosis and severe traumatic brain injury and its hard to know what is what. When we brought him home a year ago he did not walk, talk or eat by mouth. He was at a 6-9 month level in every area. He is now age appropriate in his fine motor skills, his gross motor skills are about 1/2 year behind overall and his cognitive ability is age appropriate. His receptive speech is about 1/2 year behind and his expressive speech is a year behind. Today he feed himself two bowls of cereal and a banana, yogurt, pasta, bread, beans and 4 cans of pediasure!!! I guess he was hungry.
All this to say, brain injury is tricky. We were told not to expect our son to progress beyond where he was at when we brought him home. He has proven everyone wrong.

My foster son that I am hoping to adopt has this. He is only 7 months old so I do not know what the future holds. He also has spina bifida and hydrocephaly. I am not much help, I guess, because I am in your shoes, looking for answers. He is a darling and happy baby and I love him beyond words. I am willing to deal with whatever shows up. So far, he is doing fairly well developmentally considering all his issues.
