I'm wondering how many foster parents in PA get copies of court orders regarding their foster children. We have never seen one, but I was told by someone in another county that their foster parents get copies of the court orders.
Long story short -- we believe the agency is in the wrong by not moving to TPR on our FD, who is 22 months old and has been with us since birth. We were told that in order not to move toward TPR they had to have documented in court a compelling child-centered reason why they are not doing so. We've been to every court hearing and I know it's never been spoken in court, but to prove that I'd have to have a copy of the court order.
Anyone know how to get one since they aren't offered to us voluntarily?
Thanks.
I am a foster parent in PA and we have always gotten copies of the court order. Usually everyone stands around after court and someone comes out and gives everyone a copy. If I didn't get one, my social worker will give me a copy.
We were at the 15/22 mark at our last hearing so now we have a goal change/TPR hearing at the end of the month. I am so nervouse because a relative has just come out of the woodwork after i had my fd for 20 months!!! She will be 2 the day after the hearing. I hope the judge decides to let us adopt if the TPR does occur.
Can you ask your cw for a copy of the court order?

We have asked and were told they "normally don't give them to foster parents." The situation is a bit hostile at this point. Our FD is going to be two years old by the next hearing. Her goal will have been changed to adoption for six months by then, yet they have made no move toward termination.
I made a phone call to DPW and they said the agency is operating "old school" under the premise that all the rights lie with the biological parent, when, in fact, the child's interest is supposed to be at the forefront. They were going to look into the situation, so hopefully we will get some positive changes in the near future.
Hope all goes well with your situation as well! I don't think family should be considered if they wait that long to express and interest because bonds have already been formed between the child and the foster family.
