I picked a private agency to do foster care through. I live close to where 3 counties meet. The agency I use serves all the counties in PA but out of different offices. The office I am out of serves the county I am in but not the other two I am near. My office also serves a few large counties farther away. I was told that I haven't really gotten a referral because things are slow and all the referrals are for the far away counties. Now I am wondering if I should try to switch to another agency that serves my county and more close to me? Will that help my chances? I am going to call my agency tomorrow and get their opinion but thought I'd ask here too. I am worried that nothing will come out of the county I live in because they have a very bad reputation for not removing children even when most normal agencies would have taken the kids.

I called the county agency yesterday and was told that I would be the first and only foster parent in my school district so if I switched and they had kids in that district, I would be called immediately. They also said that they don't place a lot of kids. So I am thinking I don't want to switch to the county agency. I am still going to call around to other agencies that are private and see what they have to say about how many placements they typically have and see if maybe my luck was better elsewhere.
