Hey Tam,
I know we've already chatted, but I wanted to post for everyone...
We attended the orientation 5/07. Pride classes started in August. We took a vacation in the middle and had to make up a class in January. Those in our class who didn't miss any already had homestudy complete by January/February. We started our homestudy in March. We dragged our feet with First Aid/CPR & didn't complete homestudy until April/May.
Most of the families I've stayed in touch wanted to adopt kids 4 & under. Here is when they were placed:
Boy, 4 years, placed February
Girl, 4 years, placed February
Girl, newborn, placed March
Boy, 5 month, placed March
Girl, newborn preemie, placed April taken home May
Our Boy, 3 month, placed July
I'd say the average wait is 1 year from beginning to placement. But I heard Riverside County's PRIDE classes are really full so its taking longer to get accepted to a training.
Also, I just want to clarify that this is the timeframe to PLACEMENT. Finalizing adoption can take much longer. Many were finalized by baby's first birthday. The SWs really try to do that & make it special. We had a few problems terminating parental rights so it took longer. Some others in our class did too. But everyone I stayed in touch with did finalize adoption - none were returned to parents (except those Fostering Only).
Hope that helps. Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

PS. If your homestudy is complete - BE READY ANY DAY to get your baby. There is a little wait between the paperwork getting transfered to the matching department. Then the match happens (and you don't know it) they have to double check absolutely everything with your family & the baby to make sure recunification isn't a possibility.
I remember waiting for 2 months thinking it would never happen. I was so dejected and frustrated. Then our call came and he was the PERFECT fit for us - absolutely meant to be our son.
It will happen soon. But PLEASE update us when you get your baby! :)
hmmm was homestudy ready/approved June 09....was matched twice with matches that didn't get to be placements (one after I declined at full disclosure, the other one I was on way to full disclosure and a relative appeared so didn't meet these children) and placed with L in Dec. 09.
She was meant to be in our family....no doubt about it....as pp poster said sometimes finalization takes 4-ever....L should have been finalized by now something about rules...no transferring between units within 60 days of a review hearing....however, there was a paperwork glitch that took some time and then when it was taken care of we were too close to the second 6 mo review so they couldn't transfer the case to adoptions until now....now I'm just waiting for the lady they transferred to to get back from vacation (the 7th) and it should be over quick.
Hi,
Our homestudy here in Riverside County was finished a couple weeks ago (still in Oct 2014) and now just waiting for placement. We are going for sibling groups ages 0-7 and SS. No placement yet, but we were told that we should have placement by the end of Oct or at least by end of year. Hope they were right! This is exciting and yet scary at the same time as we do not know what we are getting. We are signed up for either gender so wait should be less to. I am happy with girls or boys. Not picky on that.
World Traveler, since you finished everything in 2014, what are the hours needed to keep license active? Is it 10 hours? And are those hours per applicant or per household? Contacted county asking and they told us to contact our analyst with the state CCL, no one has called us back and we called few days ago.
I am happy to see you got placement so quickly, especially a baby since so many want a baby. You and the child are very lucky to have each other (and your family/husband). :)
