Is it possible to adopt from foster care a girl under the age of 8 with severe physicaly and mental needs without waiting years?
My husband and I are going through a private agency not the county. While I am open to any gender 1-2 children up to the age of 8, I have a reluctant spouse. We have one daughter and he feels ill equipped to parent a boy or multiples. He's had had no positive male role models in his life. I realize if I push the issue it will benefit no one. I don't want him to resent or not bond with our child if we agree to placement of a boy. But I wondering if we are kidding ourselves thinking we will be placed with a single young girl through foster-to-adopt.
Anyone have this experience? What is your story?
boith of mine we're 9 when placed here but both had already been years in system either of them could possibly turn into an adoption case it's mostly patience.

Did you mean to type "with"?
I did a quick search of the photolisting. Of those where there's and entry but no picture (showing gender & age, no guessing), there are 3 girls under 8. Two have medical issues and one has what looks to be some severe behavior issues (reading between the lines of the description).
There are not many on the PA website. I am actually going to stop looking there. The child will come from referrals from county workers or we will do out of state.
I saw the pic of 8 yr old girl that cannot be with pets. --She is absolutely adorable. So sad.
remember - photolistings are a small subset of the kids in need of homes; typically the ones who have a hard time getting adopted
DD was 5 when she came to us. In her kindergarten class, there are 3 other former foster kids (all girls, all healthy)
Your best bet is to connect with your local FAPA (foster adoptive parent association). They'll have an idea of what's happening in your area.
Positive stories. I like hearing them. What state are you in? Did you did foster care or straight adopt with legal risk or already TPRed?

Yes! My daughter was 4 months old when she came to us, we fostered her and then adopted her 2 months after she turned 2!
She is beautiful and perfect. Late walker, but now all caught up.
