Is it possible to adopt from foster care a girl under the age of 8 with severe physicaly and mental needs without waiting years?
My husband and I are going through a private agency not the county. While I am open to any gender 1-2 children up to the age of 8, I have a reluctant spouse. We have one daughter and he feels ill equipped to parent a boy or multiples. He's had had no positive male role models in his life. I realize if I push the issue it will benefit no one. I don't want him to resent or not bond with our child if we agree to placement of a boy. But I wondering if we are kidding ourselves thinking we will be placed with a single young girl through foster-to-adopt.
Anyone have this experience? What is your story?

Did you mean to type "with"?
I did a quick search of the photolisting. Of those where there's and entry but no picture (showing gender & age, no guessing), there are 3 girls under 8. Two have medical issues and one has what looks to be some severe behavior issues (reading between the lines of the description).
remember - photolistings are a small subset of the kids in need of homes; typically the ones who have a hard time getting adopted
DD was 5 when she came to us. In her kindergarten class, there are 3 other former foster kids (all girls, all healthy)
Your best bet is to connect with your local FAPA (foster adoptive parent association). They'll have an idea of what's happening in your area.
