This is a little TMI - But, I need to know if anyone else has had this.
E was born 4 weeks ago. I take medication that I cannot breastfeed with. I have not ever put him to my breast, fearing that the stimulation could cause me to produce milk.
Tonight, I found out I am producing it anyways. I am post-hyst, so I don't even have all the correct hormones. (I know the main one comes from the brain, but more are involved).
I have heard, but cannot find any research articles, that sometimes adoptive moms can spontaneously lactate. Has anyone else had or heard of this?
I did ... with a FOSTER baby and was somewhat shocked and horrified :) if you look through old posts on here from 2006 you would find it. I found that it did pass eventually but oh the PAIN and sensation in the mean time. It was purely an emotional/subconscious reaction to meeting the needs of an infant. I had breastfed twice before and my body KNEW what it was "supposed" to be doing. Trust me - it wasn't anything I WANTED to happen - but alas, it did anyways :)

I have, and I was just really, really wanting a baby at the time (onesies were making me cry in the middle of Walmart) and there was shall we say "stimulation" going on from my partner. I was amazed that was enough to induce a small amount of lactation but I asked my OB/GYN about it. She said that sometimes hormones and brain activity can be enough to stimulate lactation. In your case you have a baby present so your body is reacting to that. Isn't being female fun?
Not discounting what others have said but its worth getting checked out by a doctor though. Especially if you have other medical stuff going on.
Ativan made this happen to me and there wasn't even a baby in my life at the time. If I took it for more than two straight days, I'd have to pad my bra. My neurologist, who prescribed it to control tremors in my head/neck, thought this was fascinating and scanned my pituitary. He found nothing but did change the medication and I haven't had a recurrence.
