1. Nobody's Children by Elizabeth Bartholet
This is probably the #1 book I have read. It will infuriate you and at the same time prepare you for the actual reality that is this foster care system in the US. Ms. Bartholet is a Harvard Law Professor and not just professing opinions. Each time is clearly referenced, as you'd expect from a Harvard Law Professor.
2. Another Place at the Table by Kathy Harrison
This one will break your heart but also give you the necessarily hope you need to be a foster parent.
3. One Small Boat by Kathy Harrison
I read this after #2, but it was heart breaking, and probably a more severe story, but nonetheless.
4. Three Little Words by Ashley Rhodes-Courter
A memoir from a former foster child. This girl was in FL, which is probably one of the worse systems in the country.
5. The Middle Mom by Christie Erwin
She starts out as a different kind of foster mom but halfway through gets involved with social services.
For the kids:
Maybe Days by Jennifer Wilgocki
Murphy's Three Homes by Jan Levinson Gilman
