I have never subscribed to one of these sites before and am hoping for some advice. I am the proud Mom of two beautiful daughters. They just happened to come to me as step-daughters. They were removed from their bio-mom 8 years ago. She was charged with child abuse but never had her rights terminated. She had a no contact order and attempted once to regain custody but never attempted visitation. Until now, we never wanted to rock the boat so to speak with regards to me adopting the girls. We were actually afraid the county where she lost custody, might somehow return the girls. The courts in that county had removed the girls several times, placed them with their dad and me, only to have our hearts ripped apart as they went back to their abuser. We even tried to get jurisdiction changed, but were told as long as one of the parents still lived in that county, we could not have it changed. Today, I received an interesting phone call from my mother-in-law. Seems my daughters' bio-mom was opening charge cards in my mother-in-law's name, while still using her own social security number. I did a little digging and if Facebook is to be believed, my girls' bio-mom is now living in FL. All that history to say, can anyone help with advice on how my husband, my girls, and me can make legal what we have all felt all along; we want to be a legal family so we are all protected.
Thank you for any help.
