For those who went through an agency where you made a profile book, what format did you use? What size book did you submit? Any tips?
I am NOT a scrapbooker and creativity is not my strong point but I have made a Shutterfly photobook in the past, and that is what I am working on right now for my profile book.
I'm hoping it's not too generic...but as we are signing on with a few agencies/attornies, it seems like the most afforable practical option.

Shutterfly is a good option...you can print them as you need them. I used a digital scrapbooking program that was very easy to use and made great colorful pages. They printed out 8.5 X 11. I would print and bind them at a local office store...they typically cost about $5-$6 each to print.

The other cool thing about shutterly is that you get a link address. Share that with your SWer. ThT way she can share the link with emoms to view while they're waiting to get the actual profile in their hands. (this was great to us-we used a national agency), you can share it with friends to look over and give you feedback if you want it before you print it off...and the obvious, that it's easy to make changes to if needed. Good luck!
We used Blurb to make ours. I love shutterfly for photo books, but Blurb has many more options for book size, paperback and hardcover, and text pages. You download the software for free and create on your own computer, offline. Then, you upload the finished product. They have bulk pricing if you need lots of books. Check it out :)
You might want to ask the different agencies if the have any requirements first. We worked with a few different agencies and each had some very specific requirements on size, number of pages or pics and format including one that wanted individual printed pages tied together with ribbon (???). We used Shutterfly for one at their suggestion and it was pretty easy, not too pricey and came out nice.

We used iPhoto because I was most happy with the options of picture and text placement, but the books are very expensive (about $20 a book).
I just wanted to comment on what you said about being generic. Of course, all of our books look the same. They are pictures with explanations, but a great piece of advice I was given is to simply include things about you that make you unique. You can put pictures of a holiday tradition you do or a hobby that is different or unusual. For example, we put pictures of the annual Christmas cookie baking day my family does, and I included pictures of myself coaching cheerleading as that is not something everyone does.
Hope that helps.
