Hi all! Our lawyer requires fingerprint checks since some of the states he deals with requires it. We sent ours in over a month ago, and have not heard anything. How long does it usually take? I've been checking the credit card statement online, and we haven't even been charged. Starting to think it got lost, but can't find any contact info to contact them. Ugh! Between that and the background check that we are still waiting for for the homestudy, I'm about to go batty. Also been waiting over a month for that! Should we be sending them out again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Wow, 10-12 weeks? Ugh. Since it was new to us, we didn't know that electronic was even an option. Our lawyer pointed us to the FBI website to print out our own, and that's what we took to the police station and mailed in. If it bounces back, I will look into doing it electronically! Thanks for your replies. :)
The length of time depends on how many they have waiting. I had to have mine done twice: the first took about 9 weeks, the second about 4. You can call the FBI to find out the status of your background check. I looked up the number and came up with (304) 625-2000. Hope that's right. They were very helpful and kind when I called them (I was waiting on mine and got a call about a baby born situation, so when I called I had a cooing baby in my arms, and the woman I talked to was very excited and congratulatory). Good luck!
My husband and I had ours done at our local Sheriff's Office using the AFIS Live Scan. Our results were back in a matter of 2 days. However, our Agency would not accept the results that way- they wanted the form letter issued by the CJIS/FBI. We submitted the prints and waited a full 8 weeks. My husband's came back but mine were declined stating "illegibility". I had to start over and have waited another 5 weeks to date. I have been told it will be another 3-5. We have waited a total of 16 weeks to complete this last task for our homestudy. I managed to complete EVERYTHING for our homestudy in less than 2 weeks...so this has been extremely frustrating to me!
waiting: That is extremely frustrating! Everything else about our homestudy also went rather quickly, but the fingerprints took us 8 weeks. The one day I didn't check the mail (the day hurricane Irene came through) was when it arrived. Of course now I'm waiting for my husband to finish his part of our profile, but that's another story altogether. ;) I hope your fingerprints are deemed legible this time around!

We sent our fingerprint to the FBI July 29th and they are still not back. We called end of August and they told us it takes 5 weeks just to clear security. Once through it is another 8 weeks. They said our projected date is October 21st. Here is the number if you want to check your status--304 625 5590--but they can not tell you anything unless it has been there 5 weeks. Let us know how it goes.

I did my Live Scan for the state and when I went in for my initial interview with the county, I did my fingerprints again. So silly that they don't talk! I would think that getting Live Scan done by one agency would suffice but I guess not. Oh, and I received results of each within a week of doing them. I live in California. Maybe they are faster than others?!
