I hope things get better. I understand what you are going through and sometimes you just feel like isn't it enough already. Hopefully things will start to get better soon.

I am sorry that things are piling up on you like that. I have told the universe to screw itself and the big bang it rode in on a few times in my life too. I am confused about one thing though. Why are you getting bills from the hospital? When I placed my son for adoption his parents paid the medical expenses not covered by insurance. When I adopted my younger son I paid his birthmom's medical expenses. She had no insurance and I had to negotiate with the hospital and pay it all out of pocket. If you live in a state where medical expenses are allowed then you need to turn that bill into the agency and let them handle it. Other than that tidbit of advice all I can give you is (((hugs)))
I was wondering the same thing about medical expenses. That shouldn't be your responsibility. Talk to the agency or attorney you used.
I was thinking the same thing however I know it can be different if you don't go through an agency or if you have a family member adopting the child.

I'm so sorry that you're getting stuck with $1000 in hospital bills. Most people just assume that all birth/first moms are covered by Medicaid or that the adoptive parents will pick up the tab for their child's birth and hospital nursery care, but that's simply not true. I've known many women throughout the years who got stuck with the hospital bills and the OB/GYN's bill. If they were underage, their parents were held liable for payment. It sucks, especially since if any of us had had that type of money to begin with, chances are good that we wouldn't have placed our babies for adoption.
Personally, I believe that aparents should be responsible for any hospital costs incurred by their infants...but many of them disagree and say that women who have unplanned pregnancies should be held financially accountable. It's easy to stick it to the birth mom...
Judging by the fact that the bill is only $1000 (not saying that's not a lot of money...but nowhere close to the bill you would get for the delivery) I'd say this is probably a bill from a specialist (anesthesiologist (ignore spelling haha) for example) that may have slipped past the SW...whoever is sending the bill probably got your info off your medical chart and has no idea that you placed. From reading your blog, you seem to have had a very supportive SW. I suggest contacting her or the attorney that represented you and asking how you should handle the bill. You should hopefully also have paperwork from the agency stating what the policy on medical expenses is...every agency we looked at specified that the adoptive couple covers all mother and baby medical that was not covered by insurance/medicaid.
Sorry you're having to deal with this. Even if it is a mistake, I'm sure it's still a trigger to get stuff like that in the mail.
I'm so sorry your going through a rough time. I know the feeling. My DH has been laid off for over a year and a half now with no call backs. He has a BS in civil engineering. College degree with no job posibilites. This actually happened while we were doing our homestudy classes. I was so worried they wouldn't allow us to adopt because of his job loss, but luckily we have enough savings that they weren't worried. Then at that same time my favorite aunt was diagnosed with an incurable blood disorder and we had to move her into an assistant living, then my other great aunt died. It usually comes in 3's then it gets better. Things will look up for you, just keep a positive attitude if possible. I know it's hard to do when your going through alot of stuff at once. Just know it's only temporary and hormones don't help either.
