Hello everyone. I am actually posting this for my mother. She does not believe she was adopted, but its not outside of the realm of possibility. She has a rather interesting scenario sheҒs trying to figure out.
She was born at Conley Maternity Hospital in Kansas City, MO in 1952. She recently celebrated her 60th birthday. When speaking to her, she told me of a variety of weird circumstances surrounding her birth who leads her to believe her parentsӔ, though always parents to her might not be her actual parents. My moms bracelet (or whatever they got when being born) is blue instead of pink. She has the same name as someone else in the family, who doesnҒt really have any significance. She doesnt look like either of her parents, and has different physical and personality traits than her two sisters. My mom has heard conflicting reports, which lead many in the family to believe something ғhappened but my grandparents donԒt seem like they will ever tell.
The strangest thing out of all is there was a possible mix upӔ at the hospital. From what Ive heard, my mom had to be taken back to the hospital but it was there the hospital determined everything was okay (possibly for their own cause?).
My mom is wondering if she can figure out who she might have been switched with, or who they believed her to have been switched with. This would mean she would need to find out where the records for Conley Maternity Hospital are, and I know that hospital is no longer around or has possibly been changed to something else.
IҒve done some searching and have pulled up some posts about that hospital, but nothing about how one can go about getting access to records from there. Im a bit new at this stuff myself. I know this might be a dead end road, but it would seem the records will be the obvious place to check. Any thoughts?
The easiest way to rule out if she was adopted is for her to order a Certified (Raised Seal) "Long Form Birth Certificate". Adoptees cannot access their Long Form Birth Certificate because that is the detailed original birth certificate that is sealed at adoption. All we can get in a closed state like Missouri is an amended Short Form birth certificate / may also be called Certificate of Live Birth.
Kind regards,
Dickons

Dickons' idea is brilliant. DNA test would also shed light. As, a cheek swab from you and a cousin.
The Conley Maternity Hospital was completed in 1936 as part of the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery. The college later became the University of Health Sciences in August 1980, and July 2004 the name changed again to Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.
I would suggest calling the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and ask them about records from Conley Maternity Hospital.
