I have been just stalking the site and trying to get some info. We have been fostering a 4 yr girl, we instantly connected and bonded with her. The siuation regarding her placement is unique, not an abusive type scenerio, more of a last resort. Long story short, everyone is amased and thrilled to see the progress she has made being with my family. We have a teenagered bio daughter as well. Lil Miss's bio parents agree it would be best for her to adopt her to us. So my question is what is the process? As a foster home do we still need a home study? What even is that and who does it? We foster though our county's child services. I have a lawyer who is also a foster / adoptive parent but I haven't called him as at this point the parents just began the process. Just not sure what the steps are.
Thanks
No matter what the circumstances are, in order to adopt you must have a completed and current homestudy in place. Your county foster care agency, as well as many private agencies, do homestudies.
It might be a good idea to contact your attorney, just to see what his perspective is on this situation.
Good luck (and welcome to the forums)

The bio parents will sign voluntary relinquishment papers, and your county caseworker will have to do an adoption homestudy (it's relatively easy to take a lot of the information from your foster care homestudy, but they still need to do a separate adoption homestudy).
Once the time period is over for the bios to change their minds regarding the voluntary TPR, you can start the adoption homestudy and adoption process.
Good luck!

First, become a licensed foster parent through the county where the BirthFam. lives. Some states allow for you to simultaneously become an adoptive/foster family home.
Tell your foster certification worker that you'd like to add to your license or certification all homestudy info and additional training to cover the requirments for adoption. If you are kin, as an alternative to adopting, you can get "guardianship"- at least in Ohio. Your lawyer friend can explain all that, along with voluntary relinquishment.......Not sure how to guide you, since you did not tell us what state.:fish:
