As a homeschooling-momma-wannabe (my kids are not yet old enough for school), I have great respect for the HSLDA and all that they have done to protect the rights of homeschoolers; however, I have noticed in the past that they tend to post very one-sided versions on their website. I don't know if this is done on purpose to get sympathy for their causes or just that they are so passionate about their work that they jump in before having all the facts.
On more than one occassion I have been outraged by a case history that they've posted only to find that when I research from other sources, the facts are not nearly so outrageous or black-and-white as they make it seem. I would definitely need to hear more about this case before believing that things happened exactly as they reported, and especially before donating any money to support the case as they are requesting.

I guess I have a lot of skepticism about the veracity of this story. SW/DSS are not exactly hanging around hospitals looking for newborns to snatch. There are almost certainly more facts to this story then have been revealed here.

Many hospitals keep babies longer if they are born outside of the hospital in a situation like this one.
I still don't see the connection as to homeschooling and them asking for donations based on it. Maybe I missed it, but did it say the parents are their client and signed on with them? If not, IMO it just sounds like a money grab for the organization to use.
I understand why the parents would retain counsel, but why would it be with them?
Apparently, this is a homeschooling family and they may have just fine to the organization they felt most comfortable with. My first inclination was to assume there must be more to the story. I googled it but only got the same info. I got from HSDLA. If there is another side to this, I would like to hear it.
