It's a fantastic and unique book that is part autobiography part fiction by authors Steve Rasnic Tem and Melanie Tem. They have raised and adopted several foster kids over the years and lost one child to suicide.
All of their kids were adopted when they were older and have significant challenges. The descriptions of their kids and the problems are beautiful. It's about loving making a family, but there is always the man on the ceiling creeping around as an one of how quickly tragedy can strike.
Be warned that it's a very dreamy book with a fragmentary writing style. Approach more as poetry and it will be a lot more enjoyable. Not for everyone, and some really tough real life lessons, but I absolutely loved it as both an adoptee/foster kid and adopting parent.
