This might be an old story.... but I hear of so many parents in transracial adoptions that struggle with this issue. Just thought I would share one parent's story. I find the pics to be quite sweet... :)

That's really nice! I was afraid it was going to be negative. I have heard negative things, and had some said to me, regarding my youngest son's hair. He is the only one of my kids who has "nappy" hair. My black/Filipino daughter's hair is like Filipino hair with a nice curly perm in it.I heard Wanda Sykes say something that I found really offensive. She and her white wife have had twins, a few years back. They used a white donor to achieve the pregnancy, and people often asked them why they didn't use a black donor. She said that, since she was much older than her wife, she was afraid she might die and leave her wife as a single mother, and she wouldn't want to leave a white woman in the position of needing to take care of a little biracial girl's hair. She said something on the order of, "You know how you see white women with black girls and their hair is all ratty and has things like q-tips and dental floss hanging in it" etc.. I don't remember it word for word, but it was something like that, and I thought it was insulting! I haven't needed to learn how to do things like corn-rows and extensions, but I've had lots of friends who have and they've all kept their daughters' hair really nicely, either by taking them to black beauticians, and then keeping it up in between appointments, or learning to do it by themselves.
