I just learned yesterday that SCE has a 20% discount through their CARE program. Eligibility is based on income/household size OR having one of the criteria listed in regard to public assistance. Since our FD's are on Med-i-cal, we qualified. It is a big deal to us because our utilities were so high over the summer. I had to run the air because we were home so much because of the girls. I wish I knew this 18 months ago, but better late than never. The gas company has a similar program.
I may be the last person on the planet that knows about this, but am posting in case any of you do not. If you're not an Edison customer, you may want to check with your electric company.
I think CW's should know about this too and share the info with their foster families. It was easy to sign up online.
Thank You! We live in LADWP territory but will definitely look into it. With the recent heat the AC has been running nonstop for the little one. Thanks again, how come they never mention these things?

There is a discount for your gas and water as well. Water is a little harder to get as you have to have a special needs adult or child in the home and have to come up with a list of how many times you bath them, wash your hands while caring for them, laundry, toliet flushes, ect for them. BUT it is worth the discount. (we have this for my bio son.)
Thanks for the advice. We already finalized, but the kids still get MediCal. The Edison discount will be at least 20%, the Gas Company is 20% and my water utility gives 50%.

You do not need to income qualify if you meet any of the other criteria, such as having someone in the house on Med-i-cal, food stamps, etc. It's very quick and easy to apply and totally worth it!
