Will take this to the public:

Why are you lying?
The Russian mentality to adopt orphans is different than Americans.
The bottom line is the Russian people are not going to adopt these children.
--Stats speak for themselves. Russians adopt A LOT. And a lot more than Americans. Including special kids.
Our Russian kiddos would most likely not be alive today. Max and Irina's orphanage let them out at 13yo. No family, no money, no job skills at 13yo.
--Very ugly lie. It happens at 18 - 16 in special cases. Educated and with quite a support.
Alex would not have survived. Without medication, he is not the same. He needs his medication and that would not have come about at the orphanage.
--Drugging a FAS kid... yes, this probably wouldn't happen - but not because of the cost.
They all share beds. And not big beds. Think two to three kids to a small twin/ toddler type sized bed.
--That was during WW2.
I've never gone into adoption thinking "I'm rescuing these kids." Or "I'm saving this child." That is NOT what it's about.
--In other posts you mention "one more saved" quite a few times.
10 adopted kids. Poor family that begs for donations and gifts (hence this blog). Homeschooling. Disposable cups. Questionable access to health care. Used clothing. Awful fake smiles (is it "they will give us more if you smile?"). Lots of very personal details online. Parents, who consider them monkeys. Behavioral issues. Forced labor.
Do you really believe that these are good conditions?
And lets add what they've lost by leaving Russia: adequate living conditions, decent education, special admission pool at any university (with a free ride), $150,000+ flat, some money for a few years after 18yo.
I'd like response from Abdulina, but all are free to share their thoughts. Only without Cold War beliefs, please.
Sorry if I look overly agressive - limited English doesn't really help. :)
Some stats:
Main Russian federal website:
Устройство детей, оставшихся без попечения родителей, в 2011 году - Усыновление в России
Total # of kids without parents: 654,355.
In institutions (not only orphanages): 105,688.
In foster families: 522,802. These are generally adopted, but not formally - to retain state benefits.
Available for adoption: 90,000
There are errors in the database - some kids are in fact not available for adoption (even domestic) or have already been adopted. But I don't know the percent.
US:
Facts and Statistics
Total: 423,000
115,000 of these children are eligible for adoption
In institutions: 65,000
The number of kids without parents is about the same in both countries. Just like the share of kids in foster families (in Russia most or almost all of them are actually adopted - just not formally) and orphanages. Just like the share of "special" kids. Racial compositions are different, of course. Still, there are a lot of white kids in US. Closed adoption from a different state - and you don't have to worry about bio parents.
Other than formally adopting, most Russians adopt kids through foster care. Generally without being paid a salary - only a couple hundred bucks that the state provides on food. Curiously, many people don't take those money, either because they are lazy (you need to go somewhere with a bunch of papers to start receive payments) or because they think that it looks like they are paid for adopting (as if there's something wrong with it).
The huge plus in adopting this way is that the child retains all benefits - including a free flat, and a special uni admission.
Foster family care in US is a whole world of abuse, neglect, and rape, including pedophillic.
Up to 50% of these kids end up on the streets - temporarily or for life. In Russia homelessness is always a choice.
Why would anyone adopt from Russia, where conditions are incomparably better? Add to that the insane $50,000+ cost. And a serious crime committed (the fee includes a huge bribe, unless the kid is unpopular - e.g. very ill).
