The families currently in the process of adopting from Russia respectfully ask for your support in contacting your members of Congress and the Senate
Opportunity for Members of Congress to Sign Letters to Presidents Putin and Obama
Members of Congress have a short window of opportunity to sign on to two letters regarding Russia's recent decision to ban adoptions to the United States. The first letter is to President Vladimir Putin of Russia and the second is to President Obama. Both letters appeal to each leader to recognize the basic human rights of these children and all children in Russia to a family and to work to resolve both the pending cases of children who were in the adoption process prior to the January 1, 2013 ban.
Senator Roy Blunt and Congressional Coalition on Adoption Co-Chairs Senator Landrieu, Senator Inhofe, Representative Bachmann and Representative Karen Bass are currently circulating these letters for signature by their colleagues, with a deadline to sign on to these letters of tomorrow, Wednesday, January 16 at 12pm EST. Offices interested in signing on should contact Libby Whitbeck in Senator Landrieu's office or Kristina Weger in Senator Blunt's office.

You can find your Representatives' phone numbers and email address at The United States House of Representatives House.gov
Please distribute this information widely to your friends and family, requesting they also contact their Members of Congress prior to Wednesday, January 16 at 12pm EST
Thank You!!!

I'm not sure where you are in the process, of if you are in process at all, but when I am offered support by someone - especially by vested members of our government - I am not about to bite the hand that feeds me by asking to review the content of each letter on such short notice. If you are familiar with the topic, then you know that time is certainly of the essence. Please take into consideration that both letters "appeal to each leader to recognize the basic human rights of these children and all children in Russia to a family and to work to resolve both the pending cases of children who were in the adoption process prior to the January 1, 2013 ban."
That's good enough for me. I am simply asking for your support in making your Senators and Congressman aware of the deadline - they can certainly review the letters prior to signature. Thank you!
To all of you that were able to contact your congressman and senators to urge their support of all families currently in the process of adopting from Russia, I would like to say thank you. We have been overwhelmed by the warm wishes and messages received from members of this forum and would encourage your continued support as we continue to press the State Department (who has been tremendous so far), the Russian Embassy and members of state and local governments to keep this issue a priority to ensure that all in process families may bring these beautiful children home. Thanks again and if you would like to see a copy of the letter signed by members of Congress and Senate which was sent to President Putin, please let me know.
Thanks again - Tod
Hi Tod,I'm glad you were able to get many signatures urging both Putin and Obama to get these adoptions finalized. However, I just have to say that Dickons is also a vested and well-thought of member of this community. I, too, would want to see a copy of the letter before signing it or urging anyone else to sign it. I have been able to view the letters through another post but I was able to view them. No way would I sign or urge anyone else to accept anything sight unseen and cannot imagine why anyone would encourage that. Good luck to all in process.

So i just read that the US cant adopt from Russia? What is this about? Anyone know of any good adoption agencies in the US. I am in NY. We want to adopt an infant from few days old to 1 yr old. We hear that if we take a newborn that we would pay the birth expenses of the mom. I dont like the fact that I can lose my child after I paid the mother's expenses. Do you ever get that money back?
