We were recommended for the adoption of a relative. Now the paper work has to go to Lansing for final approval. How long does that usually take? The CW said about 3-4 months. We have bi-weekly visits until he is placed.
We got him a backpack and put some things in it for between visits. A photo album of our family, a blanket that I made him, a couple toys and a book about adoption.
The CW also said the ffamily has 14 days to have a conference with them because they were trying to adopt him and were denied. But, she said their recommendation was not changing even if they were to come forward
I am in Michigan and since you are in the same state as your son, I don't understand why it would take so long to have him placed. It almost sounds like a custody battle. Is it because of the foster parents not cooperating? I would consider getting a lawyer or atleast a free consultation to see why they are taking so long with an IN STATE relative adoption.

I can remember the Judge telling the FP's that "I'm not going to preside over a custody battle!" I appreciated that immensely but he pretty much threw us at the mercy of the department at that point.
I left a message for our CW today, so when she calls me back I will be asking her.
She said it normally takes 6-12 weeks to get a final decision from Lansing. But, they have been in contact with them a lot with this case cause its been so complicated. In the beginning there was 5 competing parties
Fparents are fighting the recommendation. I found out today. The decision went to Lansing this week. I really hope it doesn't take to long to get a final decision from them. And, hopefully the fparents don't decide to fight that

Good luck! I have to say once we met the CASA worker on our daughters case and she knew we were in this all for the right reason and that we were nothing like the biomom she was 100% on our side which helped us. I'd see if you can get the GAL or CASA to help you. Have you spoken to him/her?
Another idea which we did. Get the GAL or SW to send you the appeal papers...all attachment if they can...(our casa was a godsend in that aspect) and file a response to the appeal and CC everyone involved in your response. We did this and notated who we sent the responses to. We even had the governors office involved and everyone else we could think of. We let everyone know how we felt and made sure everyone involved had a copy of our letter response. Explain your side and be positive and factual.

Wow, that's really cool! I will be speaking with our worker about that :)

Court appointed advocate association. It's similar to a GAL. Our daughters CASA was paid and had an attorney whom she worked alongside of which helped me get alot of court documents. We lived across country so it was nice having her on our side to get those documents to us because the SW could care less.

so, does the CASA have to be ordered by a judge? Right now we are just dealing with the agency social worker and her supervisor
My ADD can't keep up with all this. LOL!!

I'm not sure how it worked but I'm really good friends with her CASA on Facebook so I can ask her. I never really asked her before. She moved and doesn't do CASA work anymore but she is a wealth of information. I'll let you know what she says :)

Thanks!! From what I'm reading the judge has to court appoint one. But, I could be wrong
I just got an IM from her CASA at the time. She is SO sweet-She thanked us for taking such good care of our daughter! I think without her we wouldn't have our daughter in our lives..and for that I need to thank her! She said "Sorry...yes appointed by a judge." So I guess it's a step up from a GAL? I think Gals are appointed by DCF and CASA's by a judge..not sure. I know our daughters case was awful and aggravated child abuse which meant immediate TPR. There was NO case plans.
 I have recently been licensed as a foster parent in Mich.. Having to do this to get my love bug, out of foster home in Indiana. Was told last week placement has been approved and sent to DHS..Do I have to wait for March court date if placement has been approved?? what more does a grandparent have to do?? :hissy:

You'll need an approved and completed ICPC. Is that done yet? Ours took 11 months

all is done and completed, sending state sent approval to their Department of human services, and told me I should be receiving a call. But now I can not get a hold of no one. I just want my grandson home, and I don't know why this is taking so long

Ours took 11 months...How long is yours taken? Ours was held up because the receiving state (our state) just seemed to not send our license to the sending state..GO FIGURE
