Just read this book and really liked it. It is an easy read, not super long. It is based on a true story. About a single dad adopting an older boy (who he initially didn't even want to adopt) and then fighting to get him out of the system. It also talks about his day to day with this boy and the mistakes he made along the way as a parent. A couple things that many would just gasp with bewilderment over, but that I am sure every single parent faces these same issues with older children. I read it as suggested reading from my CASA supervisor, but I think it would encourage many foster/adoptive parents as well. As a former foster parent to older children, I could totally relate and somehow felt "validated" that it was normal to struggle at times. I know not every case ends this way, but as the title suggests- One Kid at a Time.
